JULY KEY POINTS
SHORT-TERM VISITOR ARRIVALS TO AUSTRALIA
- Trend estimates: Short-term visitor arrivals during July 2011 (479,400 movements) increased 0.1% compared with June 2011 (479,200 movements). This followed monthly decreases of 0.3% in May 2011 and 0.1% in June 2011. The current trend estimate for arrivals is 2.5% lower than in July 2010.
- Seasonally adjusted estimates: During July 2011, short-term visitor arrivals (485,300 movements) recorded an increase of 2.2% compared with June 2011 (474,900 movements). This followed monthly decreases of 1.6% in May 2011 and 2.2% in June 2011.
- Original estimates: There were 506,100 short-term visitor arrivals to Australia in July 2011.
SHORT-TERM RESIDENT DEPARTURES FROM AUSTRALIA
- Trend estimates: Short-term resident departures during July 2011 (664,500 movements) increased 1.0% compared with June 2011 (657,600 movements). This followed monthly increases of 1.7% in May 2011 and 1.4% in June 2011. The current trend estimate for departures is 11.3% higher than in July 2010.
- Seasonally adjusted estimates: During July 2011, short-term resident departures (661,100 movements) increased by 3.2% compared with June 2011 (640,300 movements). This followed monthly decreases of 5.2% in May 2011 and 1.8% in June 2011.
- Original estimates: There were 684,700 short-term resident departures from Australia during July 2011.
